Fishing in peaceful surroundings

Six designated fishing spots await visitors on the banks of the Sebes-Körös who are looking for a quiet, nature-rich setting. The gravelled surfaces of the fishing spots make access and riverside stays more comfortable.

For information about the permits required for fishing, the current regulations applying to the waterway and the use of the fishing spots, please contact the designated contact person before your visit.

Relaxing by the river

An 88-metre-long and 1.5-metre-wide gravel footpath connects the Várhely stop with the riverside. At the riverside recreation area, two fire pits for outdoor cooking, together with four tables with benches, are available for visitors.

A summer shower, a portable toilet and portable changing facilities are available on top of the flood embankment. A car park for 15 passenger cars is located nearby.

When using the outdoor fire pits, all current fire-safety and fire-lighting regulations must be observed. Children may use the fire pits only under adult supervision.

Woodland activities for children and adults

A 153.5-metre-long and 2-metre-wide woodland nature trail offers a fun way to discover the natural features of the surrounding area. The trail provides an opportunity to learn about the local wildlife and birdlife and is also suitable for nature-study and school programmes.

Nature lovers can also enjoy birdwatching and – subject to current nature conservation and land-use regulations – gathering wild- and/or medicinal herbs.

A woodland playground consisting of three elements, designed to meet the needs of two age groups, welcomes both younger and older children. Outdoor fitness and exercise equipment provide opportunities for physical activity and active recreation.

The playground and outdoor equipment may only be used for their intended purpose and at the user’s own risk. Children may use them only under the supervision of a parent, teacher or another adult.

Sport and active recreation

The camp offers a range of sporting facilities, including a beach volleyball court, football pitch, street basketball court and table tennis. Bicycles are available for rent, and the surrounding area is also a good starting point for cycling trips.

With prior arrangement, training camps or sports groups can also organise additional sports programmes at the Sports Hall and / or Sports Ground in Szeghalom.

Community programmes and events

The camp features a 50-square-metre outdoor performance area, a 15-square-metre stage and 30 wooden seats, providing space for smaller cultural programmes, community events, activities and camp events.

The venue can also be used for craft activities as well as leisure and themed camps. With prior arrangement, it can host family events, gatherings of friends, meetings of civil-society and senior citizens’ groups, as well as workplace programmes.

Accommodation and camping

Várhely Camp is suitable for hosting children’s and youth groups, with accommodation for a total of 64 people in its buildings. The main accommodation building has four rooms, each with 12 beds. A separate building contains three rooms, while a three-room wooden cabin with a kitchen and bathroom can accommodate 10 people. Additional guests can be accommodated in tents by prior arrangement.

The camp has a catering kitchen equipped with a oven and refrigerators, a dining room, an outdoor shower, a built oven, and facilities for cooking in a cauldron and roasting bacon over an open fire.

Guests can arrange their own meals, while full-board catering and food delivery can also be requested through the day-care kitchen or another external service provider.

School groups – learning and shared adventures

The nature, water-based, sports and community activities can be combined into programmes for school trips, outdoor school programmes and camps. The accommodation, communal spaces and outdoor areas also make multi-day programmes possible.

Families – experiences for all ages

The playground, nature trail, riverside setting, recreation areas and opportunities for cooking and eating together offer something for several generations. Várhely is suitable for a half-day outing, a full-day family programme or even a longer stay.

Paddlers – a convenient stop on the Sebes-Körös

The floating pontoon, slipway, mooring pontoon, sanitary facilities and recreation area provide a convenient place to stop and launch on the Sebes-Körös.

Anglers – peace and quiet by the river

The six designated fishing spots and the quiet riverside setting provide a suitable place for a longer, peaceful break.

Groups of friends and communities – programmes in nature

The outdoor performance area, cooking facilities, sports facilities and accommodation can be used for programmes organised by families, groups of friends, civil-society groups and workplace communities.

Fishing

Individual and group arrangements

For school groups, camps, larger groups and individually requested programmes, the head of the institution may set a separate fee. Please contact the designated contact person in advance for an offer and information about booking conditions.

Opening period

The camp welcomes guests from 1^st March to 31^st December by prior booking and appointment. Please enquire in advance about services outside the main season (1^st May – 31^st August).

Arrival and departure

Accommodation is available from 2 pm on the day of arrival and until 10 am on the day of departure. Different arrangements are possible by prior agreement and for an additional fee.

Further important information

There is no scheduled bus service to Várhely Camp. At present, barrier-free access to the camp is not available.

Pets may only be brought onto the holiday site by prior arrangement and for an additional fee.

Accommodation and service fees must be paid according to the prior agreement and, as a general rule, on the day of arrival. For groups, the accommodation fee must be paid in a single payment.

Smoking is prohibited inside the accommodation buildings and is permitted only in designated areas. Food may not be stored or consumed in the rooms.

Guests are responsible for using the furnishings and equipment provided to them properly and for their intended purpose. Any damage caused or discovered, as well as any potentially dangerous faults, must be reported to the camp’s contact person immediately.

By using the camp, guests accept the rules set out in the house rules.
